LEADERSHIP

BRIARCLIFF CHURCH

Our vision is to see a redemptive movement for ALL people to discover and deepen a relationship with Jesus Christ.

LEADERSHIP TRANSITION INFORMATION

Our church has seen God work in a marvelous way since we began in a borrowed storefront in The Village of Briarcliff. But there is so much more. We want to do our part in getting in position for everything God has in mind for our church. This will require, in part, a plan for continued staff development. We have been working on the following plans since the first of the year.

Part of this work has been considering what our leadership structure could and should look like in the long term. We realize that all we do and lead will end. Acting on this realization gives us the opportunity to build staff plans and structures that best serve our congregation and community and lessen the impact that any sudden changes may have.

One of our first steps toward making a leadership transition plan was the realization that it was best for us to seek wise counsel from an individual outside of our organization. In doing so we were able to chart a course that we believe is beneficial to everyone without sacrificing the momentum of our ministries.

We are looking forward to the questions you may have about our church and this transition. So, here are a few ways we can interact.

  • First, we’ve compiled a few answers to questions you may have. You will find those FAQs below.
  • If your question is not answered on the website, or you have a specific question, please take a moment to email us at info@briarcliff.church.
  • But the best way to get your questions answered is simply to ask Tim or Vernon. We’d love to hear from you.

The following questions and answers are a sample of some of the thoughts you may have. If you have follow-up questions or don’t see your question here, please don’t hesitate to email us at info@briarcliff.church.

Frequently Asked Questions

When will the leadership transition take place?

The leadership transition will take place January 1, 2023.

Will Vernon's involvement with the church change?

Vernon’s involvement with the church will not change significantly. He will continue to fulfill most of the same ministry roles with which he is presently involved to help ensure we move forward seamlessly.

Will Vernon continue to preach?

Vernon will continue to share preaching opportunities, at a similar frequency, with Tim.

Will Tim’s involvement with the church change?

Tim will continue leading the staff, as he does now, in ministry planning and budgeting. He will also begin leading in all staff areas, as well as leading the Leadership Board. An active search has begun for a new Associate Pastor.

Will the mission and vision of Briarcliff Church change?

Briarcliff church will remain committed to sharing the gospel, growing in the gospel, and serving the God of the gospel. As always, we will continue to refine and improve how we articulate and act on this mission.

Why make the transition on January 1?

In conversations with our transition consultant, a date no later than the end of the calendar year was suggested. This timeframe kept plans moving without unnecessary delays.

Why not make the announcement earlier?

It was our goal to make this announcement earlier. Multiple factors delayed the announcement. Also, we knew we may not have 100% of all potential questions answered but wanted to make sure we had a reasonable amount of the variables solved before moving forward.

What was the process for deciding who should become the next Lead Pastor at Briarcliff Church?

Approximately two years ago after months of discussion and conversation, the Leadership Board decided that an internal candidate made the most sense around which to build a transition plan. At that time, the Leadership Board began having conversations with Tim about interest in the role and began the search for an external consultant to advise on the structure and execution of the transition plan.

How can we actively support the church and staff during this time?

Prayer is always the most powerful tool for any Christian. We ask that you pray for the staff and leadership of our church. Understanding organizational transitions can be challenging, we also ask for your continued patience and grace as we work out all the remaining details.

Does this change mean that Vernon is starting a transition out of BC?

Vernon has no plans to leave Briarcliff Church. Vernon will continue to make disciples, train leaders, and serve our church.
