Hebrews 1
Tim Armitage   -

This Sunday begins our study of the New Testament letter Hebrews. This letter was written to first-century Christians living in an urban environment among many other religions and worldviews. This tension created hostility toward the Christian community, enticing some believers to set aside their faith or leave it altogether.

Like Christians today, the believers receiving this letter asked themselves, “If God is so committed to our joy, why can life be so difficult?”—an appropriate question for any follower of Christ. The essence of the answer given in Hebrews is that Jesus is better than anything life can give us, good or bad! The answer to life’s challenges—and the purpose of life in general—is to draw near to God through the invitation of intimacy with Jesus Christ.
