Advent – Week 4, 2019 (Audio)
You probably have in your home (or have at least seen) a small nativity set depicting the scene of Jesus’ birth and the accompanying visitors. Likely among the crowd are three men with specific gifts in tow. Familiar Christmas songs and church pageants have layered Matthew’s biblical narrative and filled in gaps to complete a nice story but don’t necessarily bring us much clarity on what God’s word is telling us.
The promise of God’s word is that it reveals to us his character and nature. This Sunday is the fourth week of Advent. We will look to Matthew’s gospel (2:1-12) to learn what a stranger’s journey could possibly tell us about an Eternal King.
