Why must the Redeemer be truly God?

Starting at a young age, children want to do things all by themselves. This natural inclination is both good and bad. We all want to reach a certain level of independence in our lives; that’s good. But we are also made to live in community with God and others. The draw into isolation is bad and one of the many reasons we need a Redeemer that is truly God – to do for us all the things we cannot do for ourselves.

God’s goal is to redeem his people so that we can live the most truly human lives. This is only possible when our lives are lived dependent on the truly divine presence of Jesus Christ.
