Subtraction
Tim Armitage   -

This Lenten season we are looking at how Jesus practiced addition, subtraction, and introspection in his life to maintain clarity in his relationship with the Father. Though our relationship with God the Father is different from Jesus,’ we certainly will benefit from these practices as well. Jesus’ life was marked by focused times of prayer and fasting. When we think about subtraction (or fasting) we usually consider food, but we can fast in many ways. Fasting is anything you forego for a certain period – taking a break from something that occupies, if not dominates, our lives so we are able to tell the truth about what we value. Letting go of the things that bring us comfort brings clarity to the things we let live in between us and Jesus. Subtraction helps us clear that space.

Don’t miss this Sunday as we hear how Jesus calls us to subtract from our life to gain, not lose.
