The Gospel of John – 2/18/24
Tim Armitage   -

Jesus is comparable to no other human in all of history. His claims alone are unparalleled – access to eternal life (John 3:16), the forgiveness of sins (Luke 7:48), the only way to God (John 6:44), and being God (John 10:33). What is really shocking about Jesus is that his claims are of pure divinity, but his actions scream humility.

Consider John 13:1—17. Jesus knows he has all authority and power. He also knows he will be hanging unjustly on a Roman cross within hours, in-part because of the men with which he is sharing a meal. His reaction? He washes all their feet. It is as gross and as demeaning as it sounds … And it is also a beautiful picture of our redemption. God in human flesh takes the initiative to lovingly wash us of the sin that keeps us from him. Sin that is actively at work against him around that dinner table. Sin that will cost him his life.
