Introduction

The Book of Hebrews reminds us that Jesus is greater than anything else we could place our hope in—greater than angels, greater than Moses, greater than the old covenant sacrifices. At Briarcliff Church, our mission is to bring glory to God and hope to all in everything we do, and Hebrews anchors us in that hope by pointing us again and again to the supremacy of Christ. Our vision is to be a disciple-making family that pursues the mission of God, and Hebrews calls us to persevere in faith, to encourage one another, and to run the race set before us with our eyes fixed on Jesus.

Artist's Statement

In Hebrews 10, we are encouraged to intimately draw near to God because of Christ’s finished work on the cross, which tore open the curtain to God’s throne room.

If we were to try and picture what this intimacy looks like, God’s Word paints a sublime setting in Revelation 8, where we read that all of our prayers are delivered to God from the hands of an angel. As the prayers go up from the angel’s hands, incense comes forth as well. I long for The Lord to show me this intense imagery with my own eyes one day, by vision, or maybe in heaven. Until then, in this image I’ve made, I wanted to capture my own impressions of the smoky atmosphere of our prayers in God’s throne room. I pray that it is an encouragement for you to know that when you speak to God, he really does hear (and smell) your prayers.
