BRIARCLIFF KIDS

WEEKLY LESSONS

Briarcliff KIDS Weekly Online Lesson

Content related to our weekly Gospel Project curriculum will be posted here weekly.

If you are unable to attend BCK in person we are providing a family version of the lesson for you to use at home. We encourage you to find a consistent time to experience the lesson as a family. Sunday morning, before or after the live stream service would be a great time. Each lesson is only online for one week so make sure to check in every week for the new lesson and activities.

This is also a great tool to review the lesson with your kids through the week after learning it on Sunday.

To give some context, we use a curriculum called Gospel Project for kids, which is created by LifeWay. It takes us through the Bible in 3 years and points every story to Jesus. We have finished the Old Testament and are currently learning about the life of Jesus.

An additional way to interact with the content is through the LifeWay Kids App. There is a Lite version that is free and an option to pay $0.99 per volume.

THIS WEEK'S LESSON

April 18 | Unit 32 Session 2

Title | Paul’s First Journey

Bible Passage | Acts 13-14

MEMORY VERSE

1 Chronicles 16:31

Let the heavens be glad and the earth rejoice, and let them say among the nations, "The LORD reigns!"

THE STORY

Being a Christian was not easy. Some of the first believers began to wonder if following Jesus was worth it. Would it be better to stop worshiping Jesus? The Holy Spirit helped a leader write words to encourage the early church: “Long ago, God spoke to His people through prophets. Now God speaks to us through Jesus. Jesus is God the Son, and He is like God in every way. Jesus sits right beside God. Jesus became a human being like us so that He could die and then rise again to rescue people from sin. This is why Jesus is the greatest! Only Jesus can save people from sin.”

family Activities

Choose any or all that best fit your family.

Story Point
The good news is about Jesus.

Look in a Mirror
Point to your baby’s reflection in a handheld nonbreaking mirror. Talk about his features and how God made him unique. Mention that God sent Jesus to earth as a human, and Jesus is also God the Son.

Say • Jesus became a human being to rescue us. Jesus always obeyed God. Jesus is the greatest! THE GOOD NEWS IS ABOUT JESUS.

Story Point
The good news is about Jesus.

Decide Which is Better
Provide clear plastic containers with items toddlers can compare, such as a container with a small cookie and a container with a large cookie, a container with a few pennies and a container with several coins, and so forth. Ask them to point to which is better. Retell the Bible story.

Say • Jesus is better than anyone and anything. No one is like Jesus. Only Jesus became a human being to rescue us. THE GOOD NEWS IS ABOUT JESUS.

Story Point
Jesus is better than anyone and anything.

Trace Shadows
If it is sunny, go outside and trace shadows of different objects on a sidewalk with chalk. Choose items with simple shadow shapes. If not, use a flashlight or other bright light source to cast shadows onto large pieces of paper that children can trace. Preschoolers may then fill in the outlines.

Say • Can you see the object best when looking at it, the shadow or the drawing? The object, right! Kind of how we can understand what God is like when we look to Jesus! Jesus is God the Son. All the prophets, priests, and kings in the Old Testament were like shadows of God. They showed us a little of what God is like, but not perfectly. Jesus is better than anyone and anything. He is the better Prophet, the better Priest, and the better King.

Story Point
Jesus, our great High Priest, brought a better covenant.

Which is Greatest?
Before the session, collect various household items or pictures of household items to use in a pricing game. Note the cost of each item (box of cereal, candy bar, banana, bagged salad, notebook, printer paper, markers, crayons, and so on). Show two items at a time and invite your child to vote which item they believe costs more. Then reveal the actual price of each item.

Say • In each pair of items, one was worth more money than the other. Today, we learned Jesus is greater than anyone or anything. Because Jesus is better, we can trust Him. Jesus, our great High Priest, brought a better covenant. He offers salvation and hope to everyone who believes in Him.
